About these currencies
The US dollar (USD, $) is used in the United States. It is divided into 100 cents.
The euro (EUR, €) is used in the 20 countries of the euro area including Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. It is divided into 100 cents.
The rates come from the European Central Bank, which publishes a reference rate for about 30 currencies against the euro every working day. Rates for other pairs such as USD to EUR are worked out from those. They are not a trading quote: they are the neutral number to compare against what a shop or bank offers you.

Questions
What is the USD to EUR exchange rate today?
The converter above loads the latest European Central Bank reference rate when you open the page and shows the date it applies to.
Why does my bank or card show a different rate?
The ECB rate is a mid-market reference rate. Banks, card networks and exchange offices add a margin or a fee, so what you actually pay is usually a little worse. Compare the rate you are offered with this one to see the margin.
How often is the rate updated?
The European Central Bank publishes its reference rates once per working day, around 16:00 Central European Time. Weekends and bank holidays carry the previous rate.
Can prices in USD be converted to EUR automatically while I shop?
Yes. Herewise is a free Chrome extension that adds the EUR amount next to USD prices on any website.
